S'pore created a toilet mascot called Toilemon to remind everyone to keep toilets clean & hygienic
Toilemon, I choose you.
Singapore has a toilet mascot — Toilemon.
Yes, the one who has two rolls of toilet paper for eyes and a seat and lid for a mouth.
Yup, the country has embarked on the cutesy character journey, who will imprint itself on the public's collective consciousness.
In this case, the adorable guardian of the orderly discharge of bodily fluids into the given receptacle without unnecessary or accidental spillage is here to remind everyone to keep public toilets sparkling clean and hygienic.
The focus on collective action in 2024 is a shift away from 2023's focus on individual awareness when it comes to using public restrooms, it was announced.
Who is Toilemon?
First introduced in 2022 as part of the "Keep Singapore Clean" campaign, Toilemon is one of the "Keep Singapore Clean Supermons" introduced by the Public Hygiene Council (PHC).
Toilemon made a rare physical public appearance during the launch of the Cleaner Public Toilets Campaign 2024 at Senja Hawker Centre on Nov. 21.
More mascots
He wasn’t alone in spreading the message though.
Joining him were Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment Baey Yam Keng, Captain Green — an iconic symbol for the "Clean & Green" movement in Singapore, as well as Singa the Kindness Lion, who is the perennial face of politeness.
Supermons
Beyond the physical realm, Toilemon isn’t flying solo in his cleanliness crusade.
He’s part of a trio of Supermons that also includes Trashemon and Trayremon, who have appeared in illustrations.
As their names suggest, these mascots champion proper trash disposal and returning trays at public dining areas.
But if you’re curious about their adventures and want to see them in action, check out the illustrated storybook starring Captain Green and the Supermons.
The book was done by NUS Cities, in collaboration with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and PHC in support of the Year of Public Hygiene in August 2024.
The next time you forget to flush after using the public toilet, perhaps this face will make you think twice.
Hope to see Trashemon and Trayremon in the flesh in time to come.
In the meantime, spray safe.
