S'porean student, 25, dies after alleged stabbing in Brussels, 2 suspects, both 18, arrested
He was brought to the hospital but eventually died of his injuries.
A 25-year-old Singaporean student was allegedly stabbed to death in the early hours of Nov. 7 in central Brussels, Belgium.
The incident happened at around 2:30am (Brussels time) on the street of Sint-Pietersstraat, the public prosecutor's office said in a press release, according to local media Bruzz.
Hospitalised but did not survive
The victim was found with a stab wound in his abdomen when local police arrived at the scene.
He was brought to the hospital but eventually died of his injuries, the press release stated.
What happened
Local media Bruzz reported that a source close to the investigation said the victim had spent the evening with two other students, after which he and his group were apparently harassed by the two teenagers.
Police stated that the victim was approached by the pair and allegedly stabbed after a short conversation.
The two suspects, both males aged 18, have been detained following house searches.
The public prosecutor's office added that they would not be releasing more information while the investigations are ongoing.
MFA's response
In response to Mothership’s queries, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that the Singapore Embassy in Brussels has been rendering consular assistance to the family of the deceased Singaporean and is in contact with the local authorities.
“MFA extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” they added.
