Seoul residents decorate city with snowmen & other creatures during heaviest snowfall in decades
"Everyone was freaking jolly," said a passerby.
The heavy snowfall in Seoul on Nov. 27 has brought forth creativity and childlike wonder among the city's inhabitants.
Creatures like these began spawning around the white landscape of South Korea's capital:
"Freaking jolly" good times
One Singaporean tourist told Mothership that she had been seeking warmth in a cafe in the Hongdae neighbourhood from 8pm to 11pm, when she was treated to the sight of people building misshapen snow companions and starting spontaneous snowball fights around the area.
She observed people using tools to shape the snow into rubber ducks.
"Everyone was freaking happy and jolly," she said.
Snowmen and their snow pets
Other tourists and locals going about their day were equally amused by the inventiveness of those who saw an opportunity to play god with the snow.
"There were so many armies of snow ducks and other shapes. People were super creative with their snowmen and there were snowmen everywhere," noted another Singaporean traveller.
A whole civilisation of snow folk sprung up in little pockets of snow around the city — along the road, outside photo booths, train stations, staircase railings, and school fields.
The snowmen's ephemeral existence likely made their creators treasure them all the more.
Sources on the ground told Mothership that the snow had mostly been cleared the next morning, leaving little to no trace of the snow folk.
