S'pore women's table tennis team crowned Southeast Asia champions 10 years after last victory
Team Singapore finished second in 2022.
On Nov. 21, 2024, Thursday, Singapore was crowned the Women's Team champions at the Southeast Asian Championship, after a decade.
The team consisting of Ser Lin Qian, Zeng Jian, Loy Ming Ying, Tan Zhao Yun and Zhang Wanling, won 3-2 against the host and defending champion, Thailand.
Ser Lin Qian, 19, helped two points for the team, including the winning point.
According to a press release by Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA), Ser said,
“Winning the title feels absolutely incredible, it's the culmination of hard work, sacrifice, and determination. It’s a moment that validates everything we’ve worked for, and there’s no better feeling than celebrating it with the team and our supporters.”
Jing Junhong, head coach of the Women’s team said she was "incredibly proud" of the young team. Most of them were competing in their first team event, and to emerge as champions is "no small achievement."
Singapore last won the championship in 2014, when it was held in Cambodia.
At the Men's side of the championship, Team Singapore team came in 3rd together with Indonesia, after losing to 3-1 to Thailand.
