Singapore men's double team, Izaac Quek and Koen Pang, beat the world number one pair from China in the opening match at the World Table Tennis (WTT) finals in Fukuoka, Japan.
On Nov. 20, Quek, 18, and Pang, 22, beat Yuan Licen and Xiang Peng in three straight games victory (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) in 21 minutes.
The victory allowed the Singaporean pair to advance to the semi-finals, while the defending champions were eliminated.
Speaking to WTT, Pang said he did not have any expectations.
"I didn't expect to come to win any matches here to be honest, and especially since they are last year's champions," he added.
"We said, 'Okay, let's try to get one set first'," Quek said.
"After getting one set and two sets, then three sets. I think it was all just a process," he said.
The pair will face either Japan's Hiroto Shinozuka and Shunsuke Togami or China's Li Shidong and Lin Gaoyuan in the tournament's semi-finals.
