SG60 an opportunity to reflect on shared values & renew commitment to S'pore: PM Wong
There's a slew of activities lined up to celebrate SG60 next year.
SG60 should not just be a time for celebration but also a time for Singaporeans to reflect on shared values, who we are and what we stand for, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
"It should be an opportunity for us to renew our commitment to Singapore. To do our part, to build our shared future together," he added.
He was speaking at an event to mark the 60th birthday of Community Club Management Committees (CCMCs), organised by the People's Association on Nov. 4.
Complex, turbulent era
We are in an era where there is a lot of complexity, a lot of turbulence, with conflict and violence in some parts of the world, said the prime minister.
"In many countries, there is great uncertainty — societies feeling a sense of division, where trust is not there, and people are unable to get along with one another, and so are unable to solve their problems together.
"We are very blessed and fortunate that a lot of these negative elements are not here in Singapore," he said.
While things are not perfect, he emphasised that Singaporeans can keep on doing better and keep on improving.
"Instead of waiting for others to solve the problems for us, we take ownership, because we are all Singaporeans together, and we strive to make things better for ourselves and our fellow citizens."
He hoped that SG60 will be a time for all of us to renew our commitment to Singapore, and to take our nation forward towards a better and brighter shared future for all.
