8 killed, 17 injured after school stabbing incident in Yixing, China

The suspect, 21, dissatisfied that he failed his exams and did not receive his graduation certificate, went on a rampage at his former school.

Eight people were killed and 17 injured when a former student of Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology went on a stabbing rampage on campus.

The attack, which took place in the city of Yixing in Jiangsu province, eastern China, occurred in the evening of Nov. 15.

The suspect, surnamed Xu, 21, was apprehended and confessed to his actions, police said in a statement.

He was meant to graduate in 2024 but failed his exams and did not receive his graduation certificate.

Compounded by his dissatisfaction with his internship compensation, he decided to return to the school and commit the crimes.

Footage of the attack posted onto X showed the injured lying motionless on the ground.

Police also appeared to be heralding a man in an orange jacket.

The school has about 12,000 students and is located about 150km west of Shanghai, according to its website.

The attack occurred just days after a man drove an SUV into a crowd in Zhuhai, killing 35 and injuring 43 in the southern Chinese city.

After his ramming into the crowd, the 62-year-old SUV driver, surnamed Fan, attempted to flee the scene, before mutilating himself with a knife, Zhuhai police said.
