Ever looked at a chicken and thought: Man, this animal would make a great hotel?
No?
Well, prepare to be wrong, because not only did someone think of it, they made it happen.
Magnifichicken
The Campuestohan Highland Resort in the Philippines has erected a six storey building in the shape of a magnificent rooster.
The resort, nestled in the hills of Negros Occidental, built the 35 m tall and 28 m long chicken over the span of about 456 days, according to the Guinness World Records.
The record-keeping organisation certified the building as being the largest building in the shape of a chicken in the world, which is a very specific record to win.
Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, the chicken building's planner and whose family owns the resort, said the chicken was chosen to represent the local area's gamefowl industry, saying that the rooster looked "calm and commanding, imposing and strong", which reflected the attitude of the local people.
Feeling cooped up?
But the building is more than just a symbol, it's also a fully furnished hotel, meant for families.
Pictures published and shared by the resort's social media accounts show large rooms with double beds and bunk beds, along with some chicken-themed furniture, such as lamps.
The article also said that the 15 chicken rooms were air-conditioned and that there were bathrooms with hot showers.
The chicken building apparently has a wonderful mountain view and likely has a good view of the rest of the resort, with its water park, its zip lines, its teepees, and its field with not one but two dinosaurs.
It also has as many familiar but legally distinct statues, such as a statue (that is not a minion) and a gorilla (that is not King Kong).
If I had a dollar...
But you might be sceptical: How many other large chicken-shaped buildings can there be in the world?
Well, the Filipino chicken hotel isn't the only chicken-shaped building in the world — it's not even the only one in the region.
Atlas Obscura tells the story of a large church meant to be built in the shape of a white dove in Java, Indonesia.
However, due to unfortunate design decisions, the dove ended up resembling a chicken instead, and while the church was never completed, it remains a popular tourist destination to this day.
