Let's get a little closer.

If it looks familiar, that's because it appears to be doing a pose that's almost exactly like the "shocked face" emoji: 😱.

Which is derived from "The Scream" painting.

OMG, it's an otter

The candid comical shot was captured by Singapore photographer Teo Ting Guan, who uploaded it to Facebook group Singapore Wildlife Sightings.

"Oh my GOD! See me without makeup," he cheekily captioned it.

He also posted another photo of the same otter, this time seemingly in the midst of a face-palm.

This pose, too, might look familiar.

That's because it bears a striking resemblance to a WhatsApp/Telegram sticker that's recently gone viral in Singapore.

Speaking to Mothership, Teo said that he captured the photos at the Lower Seletar Reservoir.

"I was just at the right place at the right time," he said.

Otter fun

Singapore is home to two species of otters: the smooth-coated otter, and the oriental small-clawed otter.

A social but territorial mammal, they're often found in groups of two to more than 10 — or "families", according to the National Parks Board.

Different families will defend their space, and may compete for feeding spaces and drive away rival otter families.

A native species in Singapore, otters became locally extinct around the 1970s due to heavy water pollution.

But in the 1990s, after Singapore initiated a river clean-up, otters began reappearing in local water bodies.

The current residents in Singapore are believed to have swum over from Johor and settled down.

Today, there are over 10 families of smooth-coated otters in Singapore, including the Zouk family, the Bishan family, and the Marina family.
