M'sian woman, 21, called her mum before being crushed to death by container in Penang
Following the call, the mother rushed to the scene.
A 21-year-old woman, Lee Zi Rou, died after a container fell off a trailer and crushed multiple vehicles in Penang on Nov. 13.
Footage of the accident showed the container falling off the trailer when it turned, landing on several vehicles at a traffic light, according to The New Straits Times.
The accident involved a total of three cars and two lorries.
Another 25-year-old male driver was conveyed to hospital for treatment.
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.
The container was removed by firefighters with two cranes.
Called her mother before dying
While trapped under the container, Lee used the final moments to call her mother, Lim, The Star reported.
According to Lim, Lee's last words were, "Mummy! It hurts so much!"
She added that when she asked her daughter where she was, Lee did not reply.
Lee's mother then tried calling her daughter again when the call disconnected, but there was no response, China Press reported.
Rushed to the scene of her daughter's death
Lim said she subsequently tried searching for Lee along the route that she uses to commute to work.
When she called her daughter's phone again, a man picked up and told her about what had happened to her daughter.
Lim added that she then rushed to the scene, but her daughter had already died by then.
"I saw her in the car and I begged people to save her but they could not move the container," Lim said.
According to the man who answered her call, her daughter had died after calling her.
"I was really heartbroken that I could not save my daughter. I almost couldn't breathe at the scene yesterday," she added.
"I still hear my daughter's last words every single moment now before she died. 'Mummy! It hurts so much!' I can't let it go."
Driver of trailer with the container remanded
The Star further reported that the 51-year-old driver of the trailer has been arrested and placed in remand until Nov. 17.
He is being investigated for causing death by reckless driving, which is punishable with a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine of up RM50,000 (S$14,970) and disqualification from holding a driver's license for between 10 and 20 years.
