MRT reliability dropped over the past 12 months, largest decrease occurred on EWL
LTA released its rail service performance report for the third quarter of 2024 on Nov. 22.
The reliability of the MRT has dropped over the past year, with the largest decrease in reliability occurring on the East-West Line (EWL), according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
In its rail service performance report for the third quarter of 2024, the mean distance travelled by the MRT without delays of more than five minutes was recorded as 1,798,000 train-km for the period of Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024.
It marked a decrease of 279,000 train-km from 2023's overall figure of 2,077,000 train-km.
EWL had the largest drop in reliability
Among the individual lines, the EWL showed the largest drop in reliability, from 3,363,000 train-km for 2023 to 2,027,000 train-km for Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024.
The EWL was disrupted for six days from Sep. 25 to Sep. 30, making it the longest disruption in Singapore's history.
A drop in reliability was also recorded in the worst-performing line, the Circle Line (CCL), from 1,209,000 train-km in 2023 to 1,040,000 train-km for Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024.
The best performing line was the Downtown Line (DTL) which recorded 8,112,000 train-km for Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024, marking a slight decrease from 8,124,000 train-km in 2023.
LRT also saw a drop in reliability
The LRT network also saw a drop in reliability for Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024.
It recorded 358,000 train-km without delays of more than five minutes, down from 546,000 train-km in 2023.
In particular, the Sengkang-Punggol LRT reliability dropped by nearly 50 per cent, from 1,217,000 train-km in 2023 to 612,000 train-km for Oct. 2023 to Sep. 2024.
