Max Maeder serves curry puffs at East Coast Road after winning Young World Sailor award
Maeder said he "absolutely adored" curry puffs.
Customers gathered at the front of Soon Soon Huat Curry Puff, a lively buzz in the air.
After all, today is no ordinary day.
At the counter, Singapore's 18-year-old kitefoiler Max Maeder diligently worked to give customers their requested orders.
The Olympic bronze medalist became the first Singaporean to have won an award at the World Sailing Awards on Nov. 5, 2024.
Around two weeks prior to that, the Olympic bronze medalist said that if he won, he would work for a day at his favourite neighbourhood curry puff shop.
Non-stop stream of customers
When Mothership arrived at 9:30am, customers could be seen queuing outside the store.
The sailing team told Mothership that the first customer reached at 7:09am and that there had been a steady stream of customers ever since.
"It's been very lively," Maeder told Mothership, adding it was his first time working at the front of a store.
“I hope I didn’t make too many mistakes and I was more of a help than a burden,” he quipped.
When asked why he chose to serve at a curry puff store, Maeder said he "absolutely adored" curry puffs and that his family often visited Soon Soon Huat Curry Puff.
Alongside taking each customer's order, the Olympian was also seen offering drinks to them.
Excited fans were also seen asking for photographs, which Maeder gladly agreed to.
He also signed autographs.
"To the people who turned up, I hoped you enjoy your curry puff or whatever you ordered and had, and I'm glad I got to serve you," Maeder said.
Maeder will be heading to Perth for a training camp in mid-November, continuing his job as Singapore's kitefoiler.
