Man wins S$1.35 million in S'pore Mustafa Jewellery lucky draw after spending S$6,000 on gold chain for wife
Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness has never won a million dollars
Behind every successful man is indeed a woman: One lucky man won S$1.35 million in a lucky draw held by Mustafa Jewellery in Singapore after spending S$6,000 on gold chains there for his wife.
The store in Little India has been holding a giveaway each month for the past 14 months, where they award a lucky customer US$5,000 (S$6,734).
This time, the store went big by hosting a "Million Dollar Grand Draw" on Nov. 24, where the winner was given a chance to take home US$1 million (S$1.35 million).
According to the store's website, all customers who spent a minimum of S$250 were eligible for the grand draw.
The annual draw event was held at the Civil Service Club @ Tessensohn.
Project engineer takes home grand prize
The winner was Balasubramanian Chithambaram, a project engineer in civil construction, who has been working in Singapore for 21 years.
When asked how he felt, Chithambaram exclaimed, "Thank God."
He began to tear up and perspire upon hearing the news.
He appeared in a video at the event.
"Today is also my father's fourth death anniversary. It is a blessing,' the winner shared with the guests.
Spent S$6,000 on gold chains for wife
Chithambaram told the host that he had bought about $6,000 worth of gold chains for his wife about three months ago.
He shared that he indeed hoped to win the US$1 million, which involved him submitting his name for Mustafa Jewellery's lucky draw.
When asked what he would do with the money, Chithambaram said he would first tell his mother that he had won.
He also planned to spend some of the money giving back to the community as a token of appreciation for the years he has worked in Singapore.
