Man dies after falling from JB bridge near checkpoint while apparently evading inspection
He was believed to have fallen onto a passing car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man apparently died after falling from a pedestrian bridge connecting JB Sentral and Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor Bahru on Oct. 31.
Johor Bahru police said they were alerted about the incident involving a foreign factory operator in his 30s at about 4:48pm on Thursday, reported The Star and Malay Mail.
Police believed he may have jumped in an attempt to evade immigration checks.
The Sultan Iskandar Building is a major immigration checkpoint that links Malaysia with Singapore.
Fell out of bridge
Footage circulating online showed a man slipping out of a gap between the glass panels along the bridge and falling down to the road below.
Another photo uploaded on Facebook group Community Roda Johor - CRJ showed police officers and bystanders crowding at the scene.
Possibly evading inspection
In a statement, the police said the victim was believed to have fallen onto a passing Malaysia Perodua Myvi car under the bridge.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sultanah Aminah Hospital Johor Bahru.
“Initial investigations suggest the victim may have acted in this manner to evade inspection by immigration authorities,” police added.
"There were no criminal elements found in the incident, and the case has been classified as a sudden death."
The body has been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
