Father confronts man for asking for his 9-year-old daughter's number at Thomson Plaza
He said he wanted to "make friends" with his daughter.
An angry parent confronted a man in Singapore for trying to "make friends" with his nine-year-old daughter.
According to a video uploaded to the Facebook group SG Kaypoh on Nov. 7, the incident apparently happened when she was alone in Thomson Plaza.
Approached young girl
According to the video's caption, the father had left his daughter alone to play with a claw machine in the mall's arcade and went to the toilet.
When the father returned, the daughter recounted that the man had asked for her number and told her to text or call him.
The pair went back to the arcade, and she identified the man to her father.
Confronted the man
In the three-minute video, the father can be heard confronting the man about his actions and asking for his motives for approaching his daughter.
The man, who said he was 30 years old, replied that he had "no motives" and just wanted to "make friends".
During the confrontation, the father also found out that the man is currently facing an investigation for a "sexual case" relating to his "friend".
The incredulous father pressed the man, asking what intentions the man had for making friends with "little girls", adding that the man is a "big concern" for parents.
"You make sure you learn your lesson," the father said.
The man nodded, repeating that he understood.
When asked where he lived, the man replied that he lived in the Beauty World area.
"You make sure I don't catch you around," the father added.
The man eventually promised to delete all his messages and "stay free".
The video ended as another man off-camera asked for the alleged perpetrator's identity card.
Similar man in Toh Yi
Another similar case occurred in July 2024 in the Toh Yi area.
Residents in Toh Yi were alerted to beware of a "bespectacled man in his 30s" who has been sighted talking to children and attempting to get their numbers near Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School and the playground at Block 2 Toh Yi Drive.
A notice from Toh Yi's Resident Network circulated online, including WhatsApp chats and Xiaohongshu, 8world News reported in July 2024.
The notice stated that the police were aware of the matter and would be stepping up patrol during the school dismissal period.
The man, in this case, had also allegedly approached young children to get their numbers and, on one occasion, followed a girl and her helper to their block.
