Driver, 55, arrested after over-height lorry damages CTE tunnel ceiling at Cairnhill Circle entrance
The slip road reopened at about 10:35pm on the same day following recovery works.
A 55-year-old man was arrested after an accident involving an over-height vehicle he was driving damaged the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel ceiling at the Cairnhill Circle entrance on Nov. 8 at around 12pm.
A video showed a yellow lorry entering the tunnel with a high crane affixed to it.
The crane first struck the branch of a tree and a height restriction bar before hitting the entrance of the tunnel.
The ceiling appeared damaged with hanging exposed wires visible.
The company name A & T Waste Haulage Services was printed on the side of the lorry.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said there was no structural damage to the tunnel but there was damage to some electrical and mechanical equipment at the tunnel ceiling.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The slip road reopened at about 10:35pm on the same day following recovery works, LTA said in an update.
The police said no injuries were reported.
They added that the driver was arrested for illegally driving a heavy motor vehicle over a height of 4.5m without being escorted by a police officer or an auxiliary police officer.
