Have you ever liked the look of something so much you just want to put it in your mouth?
Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh bakery has come up with something that will make Labubu fans grin as wide as the little monster.
For better or worse, we now have Labubu ang ku kuehs.
Speaking to Mothership, the bakery said they began selling the special kuehs about two months back, riding on the Labubu craze that swept through the country earlier this year.
Labubu labour
The kuehs look cute enough to eat, but the hard work that goes into making each one cannot be underestimated.
Carefully piping on and kneading out the creature's iconic features, Ji Xiang staff found themselves bakers-turned-artists.
"Our ang ku kuehs are 100 per cent handmade using traditional methods, from the filling to the forming and moulding," the bakery said.
One kueh costs S$10.
But that didn’t turn off one customer who ordered 300 at once.
The staff spent an entire shift fulfilling the order.
Customisable Labubus
As of now, the kuehs can only be pre-ordered via the bakery's WhatsApp number (98888500).
Due to a recent spike in sales, however, the bakery is planning to make pre-orders available on their website soon.
"We don’t intend to sell them on retail due to the amount of labour that goes into making one. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to produce one, and not everything we make can be sold if it doesn’t pass our quality checks," shared the bakery.
While you may not be able to pick the Labubus in blind boxes, you can customise your Labubu kueh's shape, colour, and filling.
Mothership understands that a Labubu ang ku kueh tastes just like a normal one.
