Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson.

There was no knockout as the Nov. 15 fight went the full stipulated eight-round, 16-minute distance, and was called based on judges' decision.

Tyson's age showed

Paul, 27, won every round of the contest on two of the judges' scorecards.

There was no late onslaught in the final round, and the younger man handily beat his much older opponent with 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 scores.

Tyson, 58, to his credit, was never at risk of getting knocked out as he ate whatever blows that were thrown his way.

This was the former world champion's first professional bout in almost 20 years.

Tyson threw and landed significantly fewer punches than Paul.

Paul appeared relaxed for most parts of the fight, taking only several punches that Tyson managed to deliver.

Fans reportedly left the building after final bell

In the end, the sizzle was better than the steak.

The lead-up to the fight was hyped, but the eventual clash fell short of the sell.

The more than 70,000 fans in attendance at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, were reportedly left furious at the lack of action.

Hundreds purportedly left after the final bell without knowing who had won the fight.

The crowd was caught in a quagmire, the fight commentators noted, as they were polite and did not boo Tyson, a legend.

They also appeared not to want to cheer on a Tyson beating or knockout, even though that was the foreseeable path the fight was on.

But Paul practised restraint.

"Mike Tyson, he's a legend," Paul said in the ring after the result was announced.

"He's the greatest to ever do it. I look up to him and we wouldn't be here today without him. This man is an icon and it's an honour to fight him. It was tough like I expected it to be."

Big payout

Bookmakers were not the only ones who made bank as many punters had put money on both a Paul or Tyson victory.

Paul unofficially stood to make US$40 million (S$53.8 million), while Mike Tyson stood to make US$20 million (S$26.9 million) from the fight, according to USA Today.

This one fight alone would have doubled Tyson's pre-fight net worth that was reportedly about US$10 million (S$13.4 million).

Both men said pre-fight that they were not in it for the money.

Paul, a social media influencer, promoter, and entrepreneur, makes his money elsewhere from his other ventures.

Tyson said he now makes money via his Tyson 2.0 cannabis brand he co-founded in 2021.

Fight notes

The fight that eventually materialised provided a glimpse of where Tyson was physically: A shadow of his former self.

Tyson appeared slower and did not have the legs to carry through with his signature offensive stalking of opponents.

He was biting his gloves throughout the fight, sparking speculation from the fight commentators about a possible mouthguard issue.

But that was not the case.

Tyson said in his in-ring post-fight interview his biting tics were because he always had a thing for biting, which prompted laughs from the crowd.
