Motorcyclist, 52, dies in PIE accident, Tower Transit bus driver, 27, arrested

The driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.

A motorcyclist died at the scene of an accident with a Tower Transit bus on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Nov. 27.

The Tower Transit bus driver was subsequently arrested for negligent driving.

Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Mothership that they were alerted to the accident involving a bus and motorcycle at about 10:20am on Nov. 27.

It took place along PIE towards Changi, near the Lorong 2 Toa Payoh exit.

Police said that a 52-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

No other injuries were reported.

A 27-year-old male bus driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Tower Transit statement

In a Nov. 27 Facebook post, Tower Transit Singapore shared that it was deeply saddened by the fatal PIE accident, which involved one of their buses and a motorcyclist.

At the time, the bus was operating on Service 966, with 30 passengers onboard.

None of the passengers were injured, Tower Transit said.

"The motorcyclist passed away at the scene and the bus captain has been arrested. Tower Transit is assisting with the police investigation," the operator wrote.

Tower Transit also offered its apologies and condolences to the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist.

It added that it was making every effort to reach out to them to provide assistance and support during this difficult time.
