LTA warns of scam that promises unlimited public transport if you buy S$9 EZ-Link card
Highly unlikely that you will get free public transport for an entire year.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has alerted the public to online phishing scams involving the sale of EZ-Link cards.
These scams feature the sale of EZ-Link cards with deals that sound too good to be true, such as an entire year of free public transport.
Users who clicked on these Facebook posts or advertisements on social media were directed to phishing websites that requested their bank details and one-time passwords.
The LTA included two examples in its alert.
One Facebook post promised a personalised card for S$9 which comes with "one whole year of free public transport in Singapore". Another one featured "transport cards" which would supposedly allow commuters to travel for free for a year.
The LTA cautioned the public that promotions for EZ-Link cards are conducted only on SimplyGo’s website and the social media pages of SimplyGo and EZ-Link.
It also said that SimplyGo has not offered any deals on the sale of EZ-Link cards with free rides.
