RSAF airlifts crewman 'with urgent medical needs' from bulk carrier to SGH
The crewman was "conscious and stable" when handed over to SGH medical staff, said MINDEF.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) activated a RESCUE 10 H225M Medium Life Helicopter to evacuate a crewman "with urgent medical needs" at around 5:30pm on Nov. 9.
At the point of activation, the bulk carrier that the crewman was travelling on was approximately 60 nautical miles off the coast of Singapore, according to a Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) spokesperson.
The crewman was subsequently airlifted to Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and the scene was caught on camera by a Mothership reader.
"The RESCUE 10 medical team monitored [the crewman's] vitals en route to SGH, and he was conscious and stable when handed over to SGH medical staff," added the spokesperson.
RSAF thanked SGH, RESCUE 10, duty personnel
At around 8:30pm on Nov. 9, RSAF also published a video documenting what happened after the helicopter landed on its Facebook page.
Four personnel could be seen carrying the crewman on a stretcher from the helicopter before transporting him onto a gurney with the help of at least six medical staff.
The helicopter took off after medical staff brought the crewman into an ambulance and drove away.
In the video caption, RSAF also expressed its gratitude to the medical team at SGH, the RESCUE 10 crew, and duty personnel for their "professionalism" and "commitment to saving lives".
"Our best wishes go out to the crewman for a quick and full recovery," wrote RSAF.
According to the MINDEF spokesperson, the RESCUE 10 had responded successfully to seven activations in 2024 thus far.
"The RSAF will continue to stand ready in responding to life-saving missions," added the spokesperson.
