Changi Airport offers free refreshment to passengers waiting for baggage due to delays caused by bad weather

Changi Airport announced it will give passengers free refreshments while waiting to claim baggage due to possible delays caused by unfavourable weather.

The airport said on Nov. 27 it is prioritising the safety of its ground handling staff due to inclement weather and lightning warnings, which may lead to delays at baggage claim:

"To assist affected passengers during this time, our on-ground staff are available to provide complimentary refreshments."

Some refreshments Changi Airport would offer are bottled water and packets of Milo.

Changi Airport also noted that complimentary baggage delivery service is available for some passengers on selected airlines:

"We are making public announcements to keep you informed and encourage you to stay updated by checking with your airline, visiting the Changi Airport flight status page, or using the Changi App for real-time updates.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding."

This announcement was met with high praise.

It's raining

The Meteorological Service Singapore said in a media advisory on Nov. 25 that moderate to heavy thundery showers in the afternoon will cover most parts of Singapore in the second half of November 2024.

The showers may also extend into the night on a few days.

As a result, the total rainfall for the rest of November is forecast to be above average over most parts of the island.

On Nov. 22, many parts of Singapore experienced heavy rain in the afternoon.

This led to flood risk warnings being issued to 19 locations across Singapore, such as Lorong Gambir, Mount Vernon Road, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, Bedok Avenue 4 and Jalan Nipah, said PUB in a Facebook post.

Two flash floods occurred at Wan Tho Avenue at 3:10pm and Yishun Avenue 7 at 3:30pm.

The agency said the flash floods subsided within 10 minutes, and that affected road users received assistance.

It noted that northern Singapore recorded the heaviest rainfall of 127.7mm from 2:15pm to 4:50pm, which is equivalent to 51 per cent of the country's average monthly rainfall in November.

PUB said the onset of the northeast monsoon may cause moderate to heavy showers in the afternoons on most days.
