Two young boys were seen being questioned by the police at Sembawang MRT station on the afternoon of Nov. 24, after they had reportedly ridden bicycles belonging to Anywheel without paying.

Anywheel is a bicycle-sharing platform.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the scene was witnessed by a member of the public who said that one of the boys was dressed in black and another in red, and that there were at least four police officers on the scene.

Two Anywheel bicycles were seen lying by the side and one of the locks was also damaged.

Anywheel called the police after detecting that their bicycles were being used without payment

According to a spokesperson for Anywheel in response to media queries, their employees had discovered that members of the public had been using the bicycle without paying.

The spokesperson was quoted as saying:

"Since our services require everyone to pay through the app, our staff will randomly check the usage of bicycles regularly.

Unfortunately, we found that there were people using the bicycles without paying."

The spokesperson added that the staff called the police once they had tracked the location of the bicycles.

As for the spoiled lock on one of the bicycles, the spokesperson said it is unclear if it had been broken by the boys.

He added that it could have been broken by a prior user.

Mother of one of the boys seen talking to police

Shin Min Daily News further reported that the mother of the boy dressed in black eventually arrived on the scene and was seen talking to the police.

Meanwhile, the other boy was seen being escorted away by the police, presumably to be taken back home, according to the public witness.

The Anywheel spokesperson added that on average, there are 10 such incidents per month of people using the platform's bicycles without paying.
