6 teens, aged 13-16, arrested for stealing car from Sengkang car park for joyride
A knuckle duster and e-vapouriser were also found in their possession.
When a man went to retrieve a camera from his car parked at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) multi-storey car park on Oct. 29, he was shocked to discover that his car was missing.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the man even called his wife to check where he had parked the car.
Once he realised his car was really gone and likely stolen, he immediately called the police.
Missing
Shin Min reported that the incident occurred at around 11:30pm on Oct. 29 at the multi-storey car park at Block 457 Sengkang West Road.
The car owner, Huang, and his wife had parked the car on the second floor of the car park at around 7:30pm when the pair returned home.
When he returned at around 11:30pm to retrieve his camera, he found another car in the spot where he had parked, leaving him bewildered.
Huang told Shin Min that he called his wife to confirm where they had parked the car.
Huang shared with the Chinese media that they usually unlocked their car door with a key, which occasionally triggers the alarm.
As such, they sometimes leave the car unlocked with the key inside.
Once Huang reported the theft, several police officers arrived at the scene to investigate.
Sees car coming back
Shin Min reported that while being interviewed by the police, Huang recognised the sound of his car's engine approaching.
He saw his car slowly drive up to the second floor, and the driver hesitated when he saw the police.
Two police officers quickly intercepted the car and instructed the driver to stop and exit the vehicle.
Huang saw six teenagers, five boys and one girl, get out of the car and made to sit together at the side.
Joyride
Huang learned that the teenagers reside around Punggol and were confused about why they would come to Sengkang to steal a car, Shin Min reported.
Huang also discovered that the teenagers brought their friends out for a joyride after allegedly stealing the car.
Huang's wife also said the teenagers were "merely mischievous rather than malicious car thieves": "The car showed no signs of scratches, and we're relieved nothing serious happened while they were driving it."
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed they were alerted to a motor vehicle theft case at Block 457 Sengkang West Road on Oct. 30 at 12:05am.
Five male teenagers, aged between 14 and 16, and a 13-year-old female teenager were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle.
A knuckle duster and e-vapouriser were also found in their possession.
One of the male teenagers, 16, will also be assisting with investigations for possession of an offensive weapon.
The e-vapouriser-related offence has been referred to the Health Sciences Authority, and investigations are ongoing.
