4 typhoons churning in western Pacific at the same time, 3 have already hit the Philippines
The Philippines has been bearing the brunt of multiple storms.
Four typhoons have been detected in the Pacific Ocean at the same time, making it the first time such a phenomenon has occurred in the month of November since observations began in 1951, Japanese media Asahi Shimbun reported.
The four storms were detected in the western Pacific Ocean from Vietnam to Guam.
They are called Typhoon Yinxing, Typhoon Toraji, Tropical Storm Usagi, and Tropical Storm Man-Yi.
Three of the storms have already hit the Philippines
Three of the storms — Yinxing, Toraji and Usagi — have already made landfall on the Philippines, according to CNN and CNA, with the country's authorities preparing for the fourth to also hit the country.
AP News reported that while there were no immediate reports of casualties from Usagi, more than 82,500 had to flee their homes as a result of Toraji.
In total, at least 160 people have already been killed while 9 million have been displaced from multiple storms.
The Philippines' government has spent more than 1 billion pesos (S$22.6 million) on aid for hundreds of thousands of storm victims, Welfare Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Humanitarian Country Team in the Philippines is raising US$32.9 million (S$42.9 million) to help the government provide assistance to about 210,000 people in critical need of aid and protection, particularly women, children, and people with disabilities.
