The President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Yoon Suk Yeol, 63, will be visiting Singapore on a state visit from Oct. 7 to Oct. 9, 2024.

It is his first state visit to Singapore since he took office in 2022.

He was invited by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, affirming the good relationship between Singapore and South Korea, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Oct. 6, 2024.

The visit will provide opportunity for both sides to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties in the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025.

Yoon will be accompanied by South Korea's first lady Kim Keon Hee, as well as ministers and senior officials.

Itinerary

On Oct. 8, Yoon will be welcomed at Parliament House, and will call upon President Tharman.

He will then meet Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.

PM Wong, along with his wife Loo Tze Lui, will host Yoon and Kim for lunch.

Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong will also meet Yoon.

President Tharman and his wife, Jane Ittogi, will host a state banquet in honour of Yoon and Kim.

Extradition treaty to be signed

PM Wong and Yoon will witness the signing of an extradition treaty, as well as the exchange of several memoranda of understanding to enhance our cooperation in the areas of trade, food safety, energy, start-ups, and technology.

Yoon and Kim will also have an orchid named in their honour at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

The South Korean President will also deliver a keynote speech at the Singapore-Korea Business Forum organised by the Singapore Business Federation and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Finally, he will deliver a lecture titled “A Vision for Korean Unification Toward a Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region” on Oct. 9.

It will be chaired by Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.
