Workers in Marine Parade drained the floodwaters after an underground water pipe burst on Oct. 4.

The incident left some areas in the estate covered in ankle-deep waters.

In response to Mothership's queries, PUB, the national water agency, said works at a construction site along Still Road South damaged a PUB underground water pipe, resulting in water gushing and flooding the nearby roads and surrounding HDB blocks.

The damaged pipe is a 300mm potable water pipe that serves the Marine Drive area.

There is no impact to water supply, PUB added.

Repair works

PUB immediately deployed a service crew onsite to isolate the leak and repair the damage.

Motorists are advised to consider alternative routes and exercise caution, as repair works are ongoing.

To facilitate repairs, one of the four lanes at Still Road South towards Eunos Link has been temporarily closed.

As of 3:30pm, the other three lanes are passable to traffic.

PUB stated that they will investigate further and will follow up with enforcement action.

All water cleared

In response to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from the Land Transport Authority said a contractor who was constructing a lift shaft on a pedestrian overhead bridge near Marine Parade Community Centre accidentally damaged a water pipe.

The incident led to water flowing onto Still Road South and the common areas at Block 66 and 67 Marine Drive. The damaged water pipe has been isolated, and repairs are ongoing.

The spokesperson added that all the water has been cleared from the road and the common areas at the affected blocks.

LTA will work with its contractor to review the incident to identify the cause and any necessary remedial actions, they said.

When Mothership visited the vicinity at about 4:20pm, workers were seen scooping out the water with buckets.

Roads resumed

At about 4.50pm, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng updated on Facebook that road access along Still Road South has resumed.

Sandbags were placed to prevent flooding into a store, as it was located at the bottom of a hill.

The workers were also spotted working together, possibly fixing the burst pipe.
