Woman takes care of paralysed husband for 6 years, he divorces her after he recovers

A woman in Malaysia revealed that her husband had divorced her — after she had cared for him for six years when he was paralysed, and he subsequently made a recovery.

A Facebook post by the woman caused a stir online over the weekend.

Her post gained traction as she had previously documented her life as her paralysed husband's primary caregiver.

As of Oct. 21, 2024, her page had 32,000 follows.

Timeline of events

According to Malaysian news site Sin Chew Daily, the woman got married in 2016 and spent the first two years in a long-distance marriage.

However, the man got into a car accident in 2018 and became paralysed and bed-ridden. 

She then became his primary caregiver.

To take care of him, she would feed him, change his diapers, clean him, and help him with his rehabilitation everyday.

She had to feed him a formula through a tube four times a day.

She only took breaks when her family came to visit them.

The reason for the dissolution of their marriage was not clear.

What happened recently

After all that she did for him, the woman then put up a post congratulating her former spouse on getting married.

The woman wrote: "Congratulations to my former husband, I hope you are happy with the one you chose. To the new bride, please take good care of him like I did. I am done with him, now it is your turn to take over."

She had also posted media of the couple at their wedding, which caused a stir and attracted negative comments, according to MStar.

Her ex-husband was no longer paralysed or bed-ridden when he remarried.

The woman later deleted the post.

In the post, the woman had mentioned that she knew about her husband's new marriage since July, and that she only posted about it because she had received many messages about it.

The woman posted on Oct. 18, 2024 about her divorce.

She wrote that they got legally separated in court on Oct. 10, 2024, and that her husband is "carrying out his responsibility well" and the will "still carry out the responsibility of raising their children together".

She also wrote: "Our families have given me and my children full support. Fate, wealth, life, and death are all controlled by God, and God has let our relationship end here. This is a test for both of us. Please don't be angry. Everything that has happened has its meaning."

Responses

Online commenters reacted with empathy for the woman.

One said: "Women are really great and strong because they are able to withstand this test. It's just that your fate is not good to get a man who doesn't know how to appreciate and be grateful".

Another expressed her disdain for the ex-husband  "I don't think your ex is carrying out his responsibility well..."
