While on a walk in Hunter Valley, Australia, a 23-year-old woman found herself in a precarious situation.

Her phone fell into a crevice between two boulders, and as she was trying to retrieve it, she slipped and fell into the rocks as well.

She was trapped upside down for seven hours, ABC News reported.

Went on a walk

The woman, Matilda Campbell, told ABC News that she had been on a walk with a friend.

They sat down on some rocks to admire the view, and put their phones next to them.

But her phone slipped off the rock into a crevice.

As she was still in the middle of paying for the phone, she tried to retrieve it — and slipped.

She wound up trapped between two boulders, upside down.

Rescue attempt

When she was unsuccessful at getting out, her friend drove to a place where there was phone reception and called the emergency services.

By the time they arrived, Campbell had been trapped for an hour.

The team spent hours removing several heavy boulders to access the trapped woman, including one that weighed 500kg.

One paramedic said that in his 10 years of work, he had "never encountered a job quite like this."

Every time she moved, her shoulder and face would graze against a rock and take more skin off, she said.

Her feet and toes had also become numb from being in the air.

"At one point I had honestly thought I wasn't going to make it out and was cursing myself for not telling my family I loved them before I had left," she told ABC News.

"If it wasn't for all the agencies who came so swiftly to help me there is a chance I would not be here today."

Phone didn't do it

After seven hours, Campbell was finally freed.

She was transported to hospital and treated for a fractured vertebra and major grazing on her shoulder, hip, face, and back.

However, she was unable to retrieve her phone at the end.

"I also hope this is a good message for people not to put themselves in danger for a phone," she said.
