S'pore's Tiger Beer is Manchester United's official beer partner
I'm excited to have a new beer to cry into while watching United.
Singapore's most famous beer has joined with Manchester United to be its official beer partner, the club announced in a press release on Oct. 17.
Just the thing needed to lift the spirits of long-suffering Man U fans.
The pitch
Manchester United is one of the world's most famous and successful football clubs, but is going through a torrid time at the moment, with the team sitting 14th out of 20 in the English Premier League, and with no indication that a turnaround is imminent.
But never one to turn its back on fans, the club have announced a new beer to cry into, Tiger.
Tiger Beer, first brewed in Singapore in 1932, has been announced as Manchester United's newest beer partner.
The Southeast Asian connection is clearly the inspiration behind the link up, as the official press release states that Tiger and United, "Southeast Asia's #1 football team", will be focusing on "connecting with the large Manchester United supporter base in Asia".
It's promotional video sought to draw a connection between the local fans in United's stadium Old Trafford, which may be facing demolition in the foreseeable future, and Southeast Asian fans following the club at watch events in Asia.
Its time for a Tiger
Tiger and United, after commissioning a survey that told them that conducting fan engagement activities will increase fan engagement, will be conducting more fan engagement events.
These events will include co-branded watch parties and opportunities to win prizes, such as travelling to Manchester to experience a live match at the venerable Old Trafford.
Their press release said that the partnership would bring a "first-of-its-kind" street football event to the Asia region.
It would also provide local talent with training and mentorship advice from Manchester United coaches and club legends.
The first sign, literally, of the collaboration will take place on Oct. 19, when United host Brentford at home, where Tiger Beer will appear on LED boards within Old Trafford.
What was not announced in the press release is whether matchday fans will now have Tiger served to them inside the stadium, which would, from personal experience, genuinely be a massive improvement over the current offerings.
Glory, glory
What United fans would likely prefer is a massive improvement to results, with United sitting 14th in the table and having only won two of the first seven games, and also having scored fewer goals than games played.
Brentford by comparison, sit in 11th place.
Among the litany of complaints that United fans have is a question of whether the club's transfer policy is too limited, with a significant number of United's Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag's signings either also being Dutch, or having some connection to his former Dutch club Ajax.
Perhaps it is ironic then that Tiger Beer's parent company is the Dutch brewery Heineken, adding one more Dutch signing for United fans to ponder.
