The diner then concluded her post by calling for a boycott of the coffee shop at Block 201 Tampines Street 21.

She claimed:

"Definitely, shrinkflation (has) seriously set in Singapore. This was the coffee shop that changed hands for S$40 million in Tampines."

The coffee shop had previously been sold for S$41.6 million in July 2022.

Coffee shop stall says staff new and inexperienced

When a Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the coffee shop on the evening of Oct. 19, they spoke to a male staff who was aware of the incident, but did not want to be named.

According to the staff, his colleague who prepared the bread was apparently a new employee who had joined the coffee shop for less than a month and was inexperienced.

"She's a new person and does not know much about the operating procedures, but the amount of butter is indeed too small," the staff said.

When asked if the new hire would receive more training, the staff refused to clarify further and said she worked the morning shift, while he only arrived in the afternoon, and did not know more.

Shin Min buys toast to verify amount of butter

Shin Min further reported that its reporter also purchased some toasted bread without kaya spread to personally verify the amount of butter.

In total, the reporter spent S$1.80 for toasted bread with four slices of butter and noted that there was a clear difference in the amount of butter served compared to the complainant's portion of butter.

In addition, according to the stall's employees, toasted bread costs S$1.80, regardless of whether it comes with kaya spread.
