Syed Alwi Road shophouses collapse, 6 injured
SCDF rescued one person who was trapped in one of the affected units.
Two two-storey shophouse units at Syed Alwi Road partially collapsed in the wee hours of Oct. 8.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they were alerted to the incident at about 1:30am.
When the SCDF arrived, they commenced a search of the area to see if anyone was trapped under the debris.
Two search dogs and a drone were also deployed to augment the search operation.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue one person from the second floor of the affected shophouse unit, as the person could not evacuate due to the blocked staircase.
SCDF noted that some passersby had reportedly heard a loud blast during the incident. As a precautionary measure, a firefighting machine with its water mist spray function was deployed to disperse any potential build-up of flammable gases.
No persons were found trapped under the debris.
Paramedics assessed two people for minor injuries and conveyed them to Singapore General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Four other persons were also assessed for minor injuries but declined to be sent to the hospital.
