Singapore was named the second-friendliest city in Asia, according to research done by Preply, an online tutoring company.
Preply analysed a seed list of major cities across Asia and looked at factors for each location, including the visitor return rate, acceptance of diversity, and each city's safety index.
They took the metrics from a list of websites, calculated the final score, and ranked the cities from the friendliest to the least friendly.
The friendliest city in Asia is Taipei, Taiwan while the least friendly city in Asia is Mandalay, Myanmar.
Scoring
Singapore had a 14 per cent visitor return rate and scored 164 out of 200 in visitor acceptance.
However, its acceptance of diversity score is 52 out of 100, while its safety index score is 74.68 out of 100.
Of all the cities in Asia, Singapore has the highest language proficiency, with a score of 631.
On friendliness to foreigners, Singapore was rated three out of five.
"It's understandable how friendly Singapore is, as a widespread use of English allows easy communication and accessibility for tourists, where English speakers can engage with locals without language barriers," said Preply.
