First snow has hit Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, Japan.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the season's first snowfall came in on Oct. 20, 22 days earlier than last year and eight days earlier than an average year.
A map of Hokkaido on JMA's website showed multiple areas in the island recording snowfall.
An observatory on the top of Mount Moiwa was seen covered in snow on the morning of Oct. 20.
The observatory provides a panoramic view of Sapporo.
"When I came here last week, much of the mountain was still green," a local told The Japan News.
"However, I enjoyed the day today, watching the red and yellow leaves among the snow," she said.
