Spanish great Rafael Nadal, 38, to retire from tennis
His final match will take place next month.
Legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will be hanging up his racket to conclude an illustrious 23-year professional career at the end of this season.
He is 38.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram on Oct. 10 (Singapore time) to break the news, speaking in Spanish alongside a highlight reel of his career.
"I am here to let you that I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, the last two especially.
I don't think I have been able to play without limitations."
"In this life, everything has a beginning and an end", he added, stating that it was an "appropriate time" for him to end his career.
Nadal has been public with his injuries.
He missed a significant portion of the 2023 season due to a hip injury.
The Spaniard will conclude his season representing Spain at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga next month.
He added: "I’m very excited that my last tournament will be the final of the Davis Cup and representing my country."
