Punggol Coast MRT station on North East Line to open on Dec. 10, 2024
It will serve about 28,000 employees in the business park and some 12,000 Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) students.
Punggol Coast MRT station will open for passenger service on Dec. 10, 2024 at 3pm, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Oct. 10.
The station, an extension from the existing Punggol station on the 22km North East Line (NEL), will be the terminal station.
This takes the total number of NEL stations to 17.
Serve 40,000 people
The new station in the Punggol Digital District will serve more than 28,000 employees in the JTC Business Park and some 12,000 students from the Singapore Institute of Technology’s (SIT) Punggol campus.
The upcoming Punggol Coast Mall, which is being completed in phases from September, will also be served by the new station, which will house more than 300 bicycle parking spots.
The SIT campus will have access to one of Punggol Coast station’s exits.
The other exit will be located along New Punggol Road.
The station is located beneath the Nexus community plaza and is within walking distance of the Punggol Coast bus interchange.
Cut travelling time
Construction of Punggol Coast station started in 2018.
It was handed over to rail operator SBS Transit in August for operational tests.
SBS Transit runs the NEL.
With this station, more than 200,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from a station along the NEL.
It will take about 45 minutes to get from Punggol North to Outram Park on the NEL.
This is compared to the current 60-minute journey that includes a bus ride from Punggol North to Punggol station.
The new station was slated for completion in 2023, but got delayed due to the pandemic.
