The Queen of Genovia will be returning to the screen for her third act.
The third instalment of "Princess Diaries" was announced by Anne Hathaway, who played the iconic lead role of Mia Thermopolis in the previous two movies.
"The fairy tale continues"
The actress posted an Instagram video on Oct. 5, captioned: "Miracles happen. Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues."
She intercut clips of "The Princess Diaries 1" (2001) and "The Princess Diaries 2" (2004), teasingly lifting up three fingers at the end and blowing a kiss.
The video then cuts to a news report saying that Disney is working on the third movie with Malaysian film-maker Adele Lim.
Lim previously worked on movies such as "Crazy Rich Asians" (2018), "Joy Ride" (2023), and "Raya And The Last Dragon" (2021).
According to Variety, Debra Martin Chase, the person who produced the film franchise, will be involved in the third movie's production, along with Hathaway.
Me? A princess?
Released in 2001, "The Princess Diaries" fast became ingrained in pop culture, voicing themes of female empowerment and identity.
Many adolescents also identified with the angsty Thermopolis, who was reluctantly primped to fulfil a predestined role.
Fans might remember the character's iconic words: "I can't be a princess! I'm still waiting for normal body parts to arrive!"
She later learns important life lessons about duty and sacrifice by Clarisse Renaldi, her grandmother and the Queen regent.
Renaldi was played by Hollywood veteran Julie Andrews.
The 89-year-old is also known for her lead role in "The Sound of Music" (1965).
It is currently unknown if Andrews will be reprising her role in the upcoming instalment.
