PM Wong pays tribute to Lee Wei Ling, says she had 'unswerving' focus on patient welfare & medical ethics
"My deepest condolences to her family," wrote PM Wong.
Following the passing of Lee Wei Ling, daughter of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong paid tribute to her and expressed his condolences to the family.
In a Facebook post on Oct. 9, PM Wong said he had heard the news while he was in Laos for the Asean summit.
He added that while he did not know Lee personally, he knows that she had "devoted her life to medicine", as a paediatric neurologist, epileptologist, and head of Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s neuroscience department.
PM Wong described her as "unswerving" in her focus on patient welfare and medical ethics and noted that she had helped to establish the National Neuroscience Institute and later served as its director for 11 years.
He recalled that she also wrote newspaper columns later in her career, sharing "her stoic outlook in life, as well as stories of Mr Lee Kuan Yew."
"Many readers would have come away enriched by her strong convictions and incisive observations," PM Wong said.
He concluded his post by expressing his "deepest condolences to her family".
