Size isn't everything. Case in point: Singapore's Pan Pacific Orchard.
Despite being the 8,173th tallest building in the world, it was named the Best Tall Building Worldwide by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).
The Jenga-like building, which measures in at 140.4m and was completed in 2023, was recognised for its "hotel in nature" concept, terraced gardens, and water features.
"Pan Pacific Orchard represents the best in responsible vertical urbanism today,” said CTBUH chief executive officer Javier Quintana de Uña in an Oct. 3 statement.
"The significance of Pan Pacific Orchard cannot be overstated — it emphasises the revitalisation of urban spaces rather than relying solely on new developments."
Pan Pacific Orchard also clinched another accolade in the Awards: Best Tall Building in the 100-199m category.
Demolished in 2018
The new Pan Pacific Orchard, situated at 10 Claymore Road, opened in June 2023.
The old building was previously demolished in April 2018 to make way for the redevelopment.
Designed by the same architects behind Parkroyal Collection Pickering and Oasia Hotel Downtown — Singapore-based firm, WOHA — the new building features a lagoon pool, 347 guest rooms, and an indoor waterfall.
It has since won a number of awards, such as the Asia's Leading New Hotel in 2023 by the World Travel Awards, and the Best New Hotel (International) by the TTG China Travel Awards 2024.
