A Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) press release on Oct. 20, 2024 revealed that an oil leakage from a Shell land-based pipeline between Bukom Island and Bukom Kecil had occurred at around 5:30am earlier in the morning.

MPA said that they were alerted to the incident at about 1pm.

Shell has placed containment booms off the site of the leak and has also deployed craft equipped with dispersants to clean up the oil sighted in the vicinity of the leak, MPA added.

MPA, on the other hand, deployed seven crafts equipped with dispersants together with crafts from its contractor, Singapore Salvage Engineers.

MPA also activated its drones and satellite capabilities to assist with the oil spill's detection.

Relevant government agencies have been alerted to report any oil sightings, but as of 6:00pm on Oct. 20, there have been no reports of new oil sightings, said MPA.

MPA’s Port Operations Control Centre issued navigational safety broadcasts to ask passing vessels to keep clear of the site.

MPA said navigation safety is not impacted.
