After his internship in October, 18-year-old Mohd Danny Akid Lim was about to graduate from his polytechnic and start the next phase of his life.

As the eldest son of his family, he wanted to start work as soon as he completed his national service — so that he could give his parents the option to retire.

He died in a hit-and-run accident at Loyang on Sep. 27.

He was heading back to school from his part-time job.

Wanted to start work so his parents can retire

Danny's aunt, Ela, told Mothership that her nephew was a kind-hearted boy with a jovial spirit, who would work hard to chase his goals.

A Marine Engineering student at Singapore Polytechnic, Danny was set to start his offshore internship in October, the final hurdle before he would graduate from his course.

"He was eager to finish his internship and enter National Service so he could secure a full-time job to support his family," Ela shared.

She said that Danny, the eldest son in the family, wanted to give his parents the option to retire as they had health conditions that "took a toll" on them.

The accident

On the day of the accident, Sep. 27, Danny decided to ride back to SP to pick up some items after working the night shift at a factory.

This was about three weeks after he attained his motorcycle licence.

However, Danny never made it to his destination.

Danny's mother realised something was wrong when a tracker on her phone showed that his motorbike had not moved for a whole 45 minutes.

"Concerned, she sent him messages, called him, and pressed the tracker siren, but there was no response," Ela said.

It was only after she and Danny's father rented a car and drove over that they discovered he had passed away.

"The family is heartbroken. He was a family-oriented boy, was always by our side, and his absence is profoundly felt. We miss him dearly, and the void he left behind is overwhelming," Ela shared.

Family appealing for eyewitnesses for the accident

Following the accident, Ela posted on Facebook about her nephew's passing and provided details about his burial ceremony to be held the same day.

"To my fellow Singaporeans, it would mean a lot to our family with your attendance," she wrote, asking the public to keep Danny in prayer.

On how her nephew will be remembered, Ela said,

"Everyone around him liked him for his jovial spirit and understanding demeanour.

Danny was always willing to lend a hand, worked hard and pursued his ambitions with determination.

He had such high hopes for his future and his positive energy made a lasting impact on others."

The family is appealing for people to come forward with information about the accident so that they can have some closure in the wake of the tragedy.

They do not even know what vehicle hit him.

The police confirmed that they were alerted to the hit-and-run accident, and investigations are ongoing.

Witnesses can contact the police through the witness hotline 1800-255-0000 or their I-Witness page.
