A man was filmed running onto Seah Street in front of a car in the City Hall area on Oct. 17 at about 7pm, causing the driver to brake hard.

His baffling antics were then shared online by the car driver.

What video showed

The vehicle recording the scene was travelling relatively slowly along Seah Street in the direction of Suntec City when a man suddenly dashed out from the left in front of Naumi Hotel.

The driver had to brake to avoid hitting the man dressed in a beige top.

After the car avoided hitting him, the man who dashed out turned back to a woman behind him to look and speak to her.

He then turned back to face the car and appeared to smile, nod, and apologise for his actions while looking sheepish.

Reactions

The man's actions were condemned by online commenters, but also drew humorous responses as people tried to make sense of what he did.

One commenter, who received the most positive reactions for his explanation, wrote that the man was "proving" to the woman behind him that he was serious about her, and after he felt he had convinced her enough by shocking her with his actions, he apologised to the driver for using his vehicle as an unwilling prop.

Some felt he was being "childish" and should not have done what he did.

A cyclist caught on video jumping onto a car bonnet in East Coast was sentenced to a five-day short detention order (SDO) on Oct. 17 for rashly endangering the personal safety of others.

Anyone guilty of rashly endangering the personal safety of others can face a fine of up to S$2,500, a jail term of up to 6 months, or both.
