A 75-year-old man died following a collision involving two bicycles near Block 589D Canberra Link.

He was conveyed conscious to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, the police told Mothership.

A 30-year-old cyclist is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

The incident occurred outside Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre at around 8:57am on Aug. 5, 2024.

A Shin Min Daily News reporter visited the area on Oct. 16, and noticed a police sign appealing for witnesses to the Aug. 5 accident.

The reporter observed that it was along the stretch of the road where many people cross to get to the bus stop opposite the hawker centre.

Speaking to Shin Min, an unnamed cleaner said he takes extra care when crossing the road due to the frequent accidents at that site.

"Every morning when I walk from the bus station to the hawker centre, I see a sign saying there was a fatal car accident here," he said.

Some residents were unaware that someone had died from the accident and thought it was a "minor" collision between two bicycles.

A resident, Yang, 65, said he was nearby the day of the accident.

He recalled seeing three passersby helping out at the scene, as well as a bicycle and a car parked on the side of the road.

"My view was blocked by a tree, so I couldn't see exactly what happened of if anyone was injured," he added.

Yang initially thought it was merely a minor accident and only realised its severity when he saw the sign appealing for witnesses.

"I reminded my children to be extra careful when walking around in this area," he added.

According to the sign put up by the police, any witnesses of the incident can call 6547-0000 to provide information.
