Police investigations are ongoing.
A 50-year-old man was arrested by the police after he allegedly attacked another man, 41, with a knife at Block 311B Clementi Avenue 4 playground on Oct. 21 evening.
Upon police's arrival, the younger man was found lying unconscious at the void deck, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) told Mothership.
He was conveyed unconscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he subsequently passed away, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Alleged assailant also chased after a woman: Witness
A witness who lives near the scene of the incident told Lianhe Zaobao that they saw the alleged assailant arriving at the playground by car.
With the knife in his hand, the man "attacked another man" and injured him.
The assailant subsequently began chasing a woman in red while holding his knife, recounted the witness.
However, after running after her for two laps around the playground, he "did not manage to catch up to her".
Member of public intervened
While the alleged assailant chased after the woman, a member of the public intervened, reported Zaobao.
According to a photo taken by an onlooker, the member of the public, dressed in a white shirt, could be seen pointing his hand at the alleged assailant, dressed in black.
Mothership understands that the member of the public was trying to distract the alleged assailant so that the woman could escape.
Later on, when the alleged assailant "tried to flee by his car", police officers who were alerted to the scene stopped him with a police vehicle, said the witness.
Armed officers subsequently arrived at the scene and subdued the man together.
Police, SCDF statement
In response to Mothership's queries, SPF and SCDF said they received a call for assistance at around 5pm.
The alleged assailant was detained at the scene and arrested in relation to the case.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he and the deceased are known to each other.
SCDF added that another person was assessed for minor injuries by an SCDF paramedic, but declined to be sent to the hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
