Mahathir, 99, hospitalised for respiratory infection
He was admitted to the National Heart Institute.
Former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalised due to a respiratory infection.
Mahathir, 99, had been due in court for a defamation case he had filed against the current Malaysian deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, but had to miss the court hearing due to illness, reported Reuters.
An aide of Mahathir told Reuters that he was admitted on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for coughing due to a lower respiratory tract infection.
According to Malay Mail, Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute.
He will be on medical leave until Oct. 25, 2024.
