An elderly woman was found dead inside her residential unit at Block 108 Tampines Street 11 at around 6pm on Oct. 23.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the woman's neighbours said she was in her 70s and "had been living alone over the years".

Mothership understands the cause of her demise was natural death.

Strong foul smell coming out from unit

When Shin Min reporters arrived at the block at around 10pm, they saw a police vehicle parked at the ground floor.

Several police officers were seen outside the deceased's unit while other officers conducted investigations inside.

The reporters also noticed a strong smell coming out from the flat.

At 11pm, coroners arrived at the scene, transported the woman's body onto a black police vehicle, and left.

Shin Min reported that it was believed that the woman had passed away days earlier.

Deceased last seen on Oct. 20

A neighbour of the deceased, named Redan (transliteration), told Shin Min that over the years, he had "never seen any of her friends or relatives visiting her during holidays".

The last time he saw her was last weekend, and at the time, the woman "did not show any signs of feeling unwell".

This observation was concurred by another resident, Chana (transliteration), who said the woman "appeared normal" when she saw the woman taking the elevator on Oct. 20.

Neighbours alerted police after noticing foul smell

According to Chana, another neighbour of the deceased used to send her food daily by hanging it on her door, reported Shin Min.

When the woman did not bring the food inside her flat on Oct. 21, her neighbours did not think too much about it at first.

While Chana became suspicious after noticing the food outside on Oct. 22, she did not knock on the unit to check.

It was only until Oct. 23 afternoon when neighbours noticed a foul smell coming out of the gap in the door that they realised what might have happened.

Chana's son-in-law immediately alerted the police.

Deceased built good relationships with neighbours

Chana told Shin Min that the deceased was "very caring towards others".

"We got along very well for many years. We are all devastated that such a good person had left us so suddenly," she added.
