Korean baseball player Hwang Jae Gyun, 37, and K-pop idol Jiyeon, 31, of girl group T-ara have filed for divorce mediation to end their two-year marriage.

The couple mutually agreed to the process after failing to overcome a marital dispute, and had been living separately for an unknown amount of time, Korean media The Korean Herald and Yonhap News Agency reported.

They tied the knot in December 2022.

Jiyeon debuted as a member of T-ara in 2009, and has also pursued a career in acting, starring in shows such as "Master of Study", "Dream High" and "Death Bell 2".

She also has a YouTube channel with 384,000 subscribers.

Hwang made his professional debut in 2007 with the now-defunct Hyundai Unicorns.

He signed for the San Francisco Giants briefly in 2017, and joined KT Wiz (a Korean baseball team) in 2018.

On Jun. 5, 2024, Hwang was embroiled in controversy after his team lost a match to the Hanwha Eagles.

A brawl broke out between Hwang and Hanwha pitcher Park Sang Won, which was caught on camera and required both teams' managers to step in.

The controversy saw Jiyeon receiving negative comments on her social media pages, with many flaming her for her husband's actions.
