3 men, aged 21 to 36, arrested over suspected Geylang robbery of S$7 & handphone

Three men, aged between 21 to 36, have been arrested by the police for their suspected involvement in the robbery of a 27-year-old man who had his handphone and S$7 in cash taken from him.

According to a press release, the police were alerted on Oct. 15, 2024, at about 9.40am, to a case of robbery with hurt along Lorong 35 Geylang.

Victim allegedly assaulted, handphone sold off

The victim was allegedly assaulted by an unknown man and sustained minor injuries.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the three suspects involved and arrested them on Oct. 16 and 17, 2024.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on day of the incident the victim was confronted by a 29-year-old man and was allegedly assaulted by him, and his cash and his handphone, valued at S$199, were taken away.

Investigations also revealed that the 29-year-old man handed the handphone to two other men, aged 21 and 36.

The two men subsequently sold the handphone.

The handphone was eventually recovered and seized as a case exhibit.

All three men scheduled to be charged on Oct. 18

All three men were scheduled to be charged in court on Oct. 18.

The 29-year-old was scheduled to be charged with the offence of robbery with hurt. 

This offence carries an imprisonment term of between five to 20 years, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

As for the other two men, they were scheduled to be charged with the offence of receiving stolen property.

This offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or with a fine, or with both.

The police called on members of the public to remain calm if encountering such cases, to take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the police as soon as possible.
