From a kid to an adult, but still a gamer.

The cruel irony of being an adult is that you finally have the money to buy all the video games you desired as a kid, but there’s just not enough time to play them.

We didn’t have much money for entertainment back then, so I had to make do with what I could find and play for free, usually online.

For a dawn-of-the-millennium kid, I wasted far too many hours of my young life on sites like Newgrounds and Neopets, either blowing up enemies or raising virtual friends.

Neopets sure has changed since I last logged on. Image via Mothership.

And even though I have much less time to play video games as a working adult as I once did, I still manage to find the time when a truly great game comes along.

While we must all juggle our responsibilities of work, family and other commitments, video games will always be there whenever you need an escape.

Whether you’re a veteran gamer or a newbie, gamescom asia 2024 will have something to excite you.

Taking place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from Oct. 18 to 20, 2024, it features everything from booths for console, PC, mobile, retro and board games, to artists with game merchandise, and even a stage appearance by BAFTA award winning actor, Andrew Wincott, the voice of Raphael in Baldur's Gate 3.

Here are some event highlights you won’t want to miss, and read on to find out how you can snag a pair of free tickets to this blockbuster event.

Industry heavyweights

Some of the biggest names in the video game industry will be showcasing their latest offerings at this special event.

Capcom

For Capcom fans, watch Street Fighter 6 pro players at the Capcom Pro Tour 2024 Super Premier Singapore and try out demo stations for:

  • “Dead Rising (Deluxe Remaster)”
  • “Street Fighter 6” (with new guest character Terry Bogard)
  • “Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess”
  • “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics”
  • “Monster Hunter Wilds”

This makes gamescom asia the only place in Southeast Asia for Monster Hunter fans to try out the new installation of the series.

PlayStation

Besides “Monster Hunter Wilds”, the PlayStation booth will feature more games that haven’t even been released to the general public yet, like “Sonic X Shadow Generations”.

Be among the first in the world to “test-drive” these awesome games.

For sports fans, try and beat the competition while playing EA Sports FC 25 and NBA 2K 25.

And for those who don’t mind a bit of physical action in their games, try swinging to the beats of “Just Dance 2025”.

And don’t forget to swing by the Astro Bot experience booth for a unique playtest.

4Divinity and Neopets

Get a sneak peek of some early access games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Mandragora, JDM: Japanese Drift Master, First Dwarf and TerraTech Worlds.

And if like me, you also have fond memories of playing with a virtual Neopet, the company is making a splash with a new array of offerings.

They will showcase upcoming mobile games like Faerie Fragments and Tales of Dacardia, and new styles and sweet merchandise for Neopets.

Visitors to the Neopets booth can also meet the Soup Faerie, and spin the Wheel of Excitement for a chance to win exclusive prizes.

Indie games

Along with these giant players in the industry, don’t overlook the Indie Games Area, in collaboration with Indie Wavemakers, with 60 games from 20 countries to try out.

You can meet with the developers themselves, and pick their brains on the hard work that goes into creating a game from scratch.

Make sure to show support for local home-grown games like Cat Quest III by The Gentlebros, Let's Build a Dungeon by Springloaded Software, Harpy Raiders by Clouds of Eternity and Grifford Academy by LandShark Games - just to name a few.

Retro games

But what if you’re into the golden era of video games (80s, 90s, 00s)?

Never fear, gamescom asia 2024 has something for everyone.

Check out the Retro Games Area, featuring old-school arcade games and pinball machines, brought to you by RetroCade.

For the older ones, wow your younger friends and family members by showing them how games were played before all their fancy 4K graphics and ultra-fast processing speeds.

You can even learn how to build your own pinball machine, thanks to the in-house experts.

Board games

For board game enthusiasts, the Board Games Area features Origame’s board game library, with over 100 titles from across Asia.

It’s easy to have fun with a state-of-the-art machine bringing complex fantasy worlds to life, but it takes skill and dedication to do the same just with the power of your imagination.

Just like the video game booths, get a sneak peek at upcoming games from Origame and other independent Asian board game studios.

Then immerse yourself in the world of Tabletop Miniature wargaming at HammerHouse. Get inspired by the beautifully painted miniatures on display, dip your brushes and slap some paints onto a free Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine miniature.

Additionally, try your hands at the demonstration games available onsite, featuring games from the Warhammer 40,000, Star Wars and the Marvel universes.

And no gaming convention is complete without a bit of merch.

In collaboration with Neo Tokyo Project, gamescom asia's artists area brings together over 25 pop culture artisans and creators who are passionate about creating art, and original and derivative fan works.

Other attractions

In addition to all of the above, fans can attend panels featuring industry insiders and voice actors from their favourite games, including Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto.

Andrew Wincott, the voice of Raphael from Baldur’s Gate 3, will be making an appearance, along with artists from Larian Studios, Wayne Chu and Wisnu Irawan.

J-Pop singer songwriter Shihori, best known for collaborations with Kohei Tanaka on One Piece and Yoko Kanno on Cowboy Bebop, will be performing live on Oct. 19.

She will dazzle audiences with theme songs from games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Fairy Tail, and League of Legends.

Check out the creativity of a cosplay competition, try your luck in a lucky draw, or cheer on your favourite contestants in the Capcom Pro Tour Super Premier Singapore Street Fighter 6 playoffs.

Stand a chance to win some truly jaw-dropping prizes.
