Driver, 59, collides with taxi & crashes into lamp post outside Hougang neighbourhood police centre
He was conveyed while conscious to the hospital, along with the taxi driver.
A 59-year-old male car driver is assisting with police investigations after his vehicle collided with a ComfortDelGro taxi and rammed into a lamp post along Hougang Avenue 9 on Oct. 15 night.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the driver was suspected to have lost control of his car before the accident took place.
Aftermath of accident
When Shin Min reporters arrived at the scene of the accident, the car driver and the taxi driver had already been conveyed to the hospital.
Traffic police officers were at the scene managing the traffic.
As a result of the collision, the left side of the taxi was severely damaged, and its left front wheel had almost completely fallen off.
The lamp post, which is located outside the Hougang Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC), could also be seen dangling diagonally to the road.
What happened
A witness who lived near the scene of the accident told Shin Min she noticed the white car had rammed into the lamp post after hearing a loud collision.
At the time, the taxi was parked next to the car.
Later on, three ambulances arrived at the scene, added the witness.
A person was seen lying on the ground, with several people sitting nearby.
According to another witness, the person lying on the ground was a man and was believed to be the driver of the white car.
The witness added that the white car was suspected to have gone over to the opposite lane before the accident took place.
Police, SCDF statement
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed they were alerted to the accident at around 9:30pm.
The car driver and the taxi driver, a 53-year-old male, were conveyed conscious to the hospital.
SCDF said it conveyed one person to Sengkang General Hospital and the other to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
While another two individuals were assessed for minor injuries, they declined to be sent to the hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
ComfortDelGro statement
A ComfortDelGro spokesperson told Mothership that the accident happened while the taxi driver was "off-duty".
"We will be offering support to our cabby and assisting the police in their investigations," added the spokesperson.
